When you see a launch from the outside, it's a rather glorious, magnificent thing. Inside, it's the absolute opposite of that. It's 137 decibels. It's shaking. Everything is shaking. You're along for the ride and you want to survive that. So, it's not a joy ride for me. It's what I need to go through to get into the incredible serenity and celestial dance of zero gravity.

People love Hubble images. It tells 'em where they are from, it tells 'em where they're going, it ties it all together.

It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end… because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing… this shadow. Even darkness must pass.

It's not the dead who have regrets, it's the living. I mean, you're dead. What do you care?

My life is meant to be lived. I'm alive for a very short time. I refuse to spend it looking over my shoulder; second guessing everything. If I do something stupid or harmful I made amends (or try too). I redeem myself for my own peace of mind.

Look it boils down to this: what does every faith on the planet teach? I'm not typing about the differences or whose god is stronger or better, I'm talking mythos - they all teach that it's all about how we treat each other. That's what it all boils down too.

I'm mortal. Of course I have regrets. I don't live for the moment (like dogs - or do they... I have doubts about that) I don't believe regrets are "negative". They're a part of life. We've all had missed opportunities. We've all treated someone poorly. It's life.

If I step out of the house right now and get hit by a bus, it's the living; they'll have to sort my life out. But I hope I have the luxury of facing death with time to reflect on my own life and realize, hopefully, that I lived; had a great time; and left my mark.

In theory, there is no difference between practice and theory. In practice, there is.

Miller's wartime exploits were to give him a greater sense of perspective when he returned to the sports field. When asked many years later by Michael Parkinson, about pressure in cricket, Miller responded with the famous quote: "pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse, playing cricket is not".

Courageous people feel the same fear everyone else does, they just decide not to live like they're afraid anymore.

Don't run away from a challenge. Instead run toward it cause the only way to escape fear is to trample it beneath your feet.

Dealing with failure is easy: Work hard to improve. Success is also easy to handle: You've solved the wrong problem. Work hard to improve.

Successful people do what they have to do whether they feel like it or not. They shut their brain off and do it. You don't think about it. You just know that it's something that has to be done. Just like you breathe, you train. It's just a part of your being. It's who you are it's what you do. It doesn't matter how tired you are, we all have busy lives. We all have lots of things to do. You're a student, you got tests to take, homework to do. You're a father, you got children to take care of. You work, you got a boss to answer to. All of our lives are full, we all have plenty of things to do. It doesn't matter how tired you are, it doesn't matter how beat down your body is, it doesn't matter how mentally, physically or spiritually drained you are. You don't think about it. You just show up. 99% of the game is won when you just show up. You make it a habit. The minute you stop and consider, the minute you try to make an excuse, the minute you have a valid rationalization as to why you shouldn't train that day, why you can't make it out. You've lost the game. Sometimes you're tired. It doesnt matter. There is no time for tired. Sleep when you're dead. Sleep is the cousin of death.
